NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETYWHAT IS THE NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY?
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character. These five pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1929.
More than one million students are estimated to participate in NJHS activities today. NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, US Territories, Canada, and worldwide. Chapter membership recognizes students' accomplishments and challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
As such, NJHS chapters and students are in schools that care about student achievement and community engagement.
NJHS students and their peers volunteer in their communities at the highest rates and prioritize connecting with and serving within the community.
While NJHS student membership is the true mark of academic achievement, it goes far beyond a report card. All student members must also reflect on the program’s respective pillars to be inducted—ideals such as scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character—and continue demonstrating these pillars within their community throughout their membership.
